Monarchs: A Migration of Souls

Thu, October 29, 2020, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

In Mexican culture, the monarch butterfly migration has signaled the return of the spirits of the dearly departed for centuries. Dia de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, coincides with the return of the monarch to its overwintering habitats. This easily recognized butterfly has a harrowing journey facing threats from habitat loss and climate change. Join us to celebrate the coming arrival of los muertos and an opportunity to learn how you can help this magnificent butterfly.
Our guest speaker, Bonnie Brown, is one of three people creating and maintaining the Monarch and Pollinator Garden in Sonoma, California. Together they maintain the garden, give tours and assist others in creating their own gardens. Their goal is to inspire others to make habitat and food sources for migrating monarchs, which benefit all pollinators. Bonnie is an organic gardener and past president of the Valley of the Moon Garden Club.
