"You: Portraits of the Most Powerful Nonviolent Tool We Have"

Sat, October 3, 2020, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Inspired by John Lewis and his quote “The vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have”, the Petaluma Arts Center invites you to participate in a socially distanced drop-in experience.

This will be an opportunity to sit for a portrait and document how you are feeling in these challenging times as we face the upcoming election.  Through Michael Woolsey‘s lens you are invited to express your feelings at this critical moment about the importance of your vote and of voting.

Participate with costume or an artwork, neither or both. Sit quietly or scream loudly. It is up to you. It is your voice and it will be your portrait.  Families, couples, friends and tribes are welcome. Photos will be taken in the Petaluma Arts Center classroom, one group at a time, with thorough cleaning between groups.

The portraits will be on view in an online gallery as part of DEEDSgetoutandvote.art and will be available for participants to download.  Art supplies will be available for artworks to be used in your portrait and/or added to the Talking Fence social sculpture.

Get Out And Vote artworks will be on view; postcards, posters and lawn signs available to purchase; and DJVal kicks off the event at 10am with her “Power to the People” playlist!
