African Soul Festival Returns for 4th Year: A Celebration of Culture, Community, and Connection
The African Soul Festival returns for its fourth year, welcoming individuals and families from all backgrounds to experience a day of cultural celebration, music, and community unity. Hosted by Community Equity Foundation Inc.and Safe Harbor, this free, family-friendly event highlights the richness of African and African diasporic cultures while creating space for connection, reflection, and shared joy.
Attendees will enjoy a full day of live entertainment featuring performances by MDP Band, Sky Palace Band, Prayer Chapel Singers, Let Them Eat Horses, and Free Mind. DJ Dave will keep the atmosphere vibrant, and a community Zumba session led by Deborah Hall and family will get everyone moving.
The festival also features a delicious array of cuisines including soul food, Creole, Ethiopian, and Jamaican dishes—along with desserts and refreshing beverages. A diverse marketplace of local vendors will showcase African-inspired clothing, handcrafted jewelry, books, and more.
In addition to celebrating culture and creativity, the festival plays an important role in supporting year-round community programming. Proceeds help sustain free educational, cultural, and wellness programs provided by Community Equity Foundation and Safe Harbor to children, families, and older adults across Sonoma County.
The day will begin with an opening prayer by Segretta Woodard and a land acknowledgment by Joe Salinas, accompanied by the Sonoma County Pomo Dancers, recognizing the Indigenous communities whose land we gather on.
This event is made possible through the generous support of sponsors including Sonoma Clean Power, Sonoma County Family, Youth & Children’s Services, First 5 Sonoma County, Sonoma Land Trust, Recology, Kaiser Permanente, IOLERO, Sonoma State University Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and funding from the Community Investment Fund Grant with support from Supervisors James Gore and Chris Coursey.
The African Soul Festival continues to grow as a beloved gathering that promotes cultural appreciation, social equity, and inclusive celebration. All are welcome.
