Desi Harp, Mishewal-Wappo member and SEC staff, leads this out-and-back (approximately 1.5 miles to the unnamed creek crossing) hike along Goodspeed Trail’s riparian and chaparral habitats, with a focus on ethnobotany and cultural practices.
Meet at the Goodspeed parking area. Tickets are $15 for general audiences, $7.5 for students, youth (12-17 year olds, must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian), Sugarloaf members, Sugarloaf volunteers, and free for children 7-12. Not recommended for children under 7 years old. Wear layers, appropiate footwear for rocky trails, sun protection (the trail is highly exposed), bring at least 32oz of water, and if desired, a snack. Parking fees apply.
Ease of access:There is no accessible parking, bathroom, water, or cell coverage during this outing. Goodspeed Trail is an out-and-back, single-track dirt trail. The first several hundred feet is a rough foot trail down to Sonoma Creek. The next several hundred feet (including bridges over two creeks) is mostly flat. The remainder of the trail is mostly steep with steps and a rugged climb through serpentine chaparral.
