The Gaia String Ensemble returns to Chroma Gallery for a perfomance of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Extraordinary musianship combined with the gallery’s superb acoustics promises to make this an uplifting, informative and memorable evening. Complimentary hot cider & cookies will be served at intermission. $15 at the door.
This collection of four violin concertos was written in Venice around 1723. They are among the most popular pieces of classical music, beloved by audiences for their moving portrayals of bird songs in Spring, a thunderstorm during Summer, a wild peasant dance in Autumn, and shivering in front of the fire in Winter. Vivaldi wrote a series of descriptive sonnets to accompany the music, which will be recited between pieces by Janet Barocco.
Richard Heinberg, the solo violinist, will also explain and demonstrate how Vivaldi imitated the sounds of nature and daily life in his music. Richard has played with the Santa Rosa Symphony and Sonoma County Philharmonic, along with Duo Giuliani and the Gaia String Trio. He will be joined by the other members of the Gaia String Trio – David Hill, viola, and Andrew Willbanks, cello – along with violinists Tim Zieminski and Mary England.
