Shows at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 30 and Sat. July 1, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 2
When the Egyptian Lord of the Dead, drunkenly crashes the annual camping trip of four middle-aged metal-music fans, will the result be this creaky band-of-brothers’ best male bonding weekend ever? Or its last? Light the campfire, cue the drumming, bring on the poetry, and toss in a few heart- stopping surprises. It’s a long night of the soul—hot dogs optional.
David Templeton’s ‘Drumming with Anubis,’ commissioned in 2016 by the SF Olympians New Play Festival, began its life with a staged reading last October in San Francisco. Now, a talented team of actors and theater-makers are pushing ‘Anubis’ to the next level, presenting three “script-in-hand” public presentations of the work in its current form, with audience feedback post-show an illuminating and vital part of the event.
Expect drumming, laughter, clever word play, plenty of mytho-poetic-satirical over-the-top-ness, some joyously heavy-metal plot energy, and plenty of outrageous surprises, as you, the audience, become a key participant in the conintued development of this new work, a supernatural comedy about the different ways we all face fear, loss, love and growing older.
Directed by Nick Sholley. Cast: Mark Bradbury, Michael Goodrow, Anthony Martinez, Ivy Rose Miller, Chris Schloemp, Joe Winkler. Stage directions read by Cindy Brillhart-True.
