Art Museum of Sonoma County Opening Reception for "Unpacked" and Welcome to new Executive Director

Sat, September 16, 2017, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us as we open our new art exhibition, Unpacked: Contemporary Works From Private Collections of Napa and Sonoma Counties, and welcome our new Executive Director, Jeff Nathanson.

Unpacked celebrates the great art brought together by the philanthropists and patrons of Northern California. The exhibit features more than twenty artists who have inspired established collectors to build private museums and gift their artworks to regional institutions. Unpacked examines collector Howard Rachofksy’s focus on Korean minimalism of the 1960s and 70s. It presents portraiture as the subject of Eric and Debbie Green’s interest in American painting. Also featured are selections from younger collectors with more eclectic tastes. Works by Chung Chang-Sup, Alice Neel, Henry Taylor, Jonas Wood, and Lee Ufan are on view from September 17 – November 26, 2017.

Jeff Nathanson was a veteran arts administrator and curator from Princeton, New Jersey. Before Nathanson went to work for the Arts Council of Princeton, he served as a special projects curator for the Princeton University Art Museum and director-president of the International Sculpture Center in Hamilton, New Jersey. From 1991 to 2000, he was executive director of the Richmond Arts Center in Richmond, California.
