Monkey! Monkey! + Larry Presents
Playwright: An Improvised Musical

Have you ever wondered what it would have been like if one of the famous playwrights of our time had taken to writing a musical version of their works? This long-form musical improvisational format is opening Sept. 29 for a two-week engagement by invitation of the Spreckels Performing Arts Center.

Each evening, audiences will choose a playwright whose work will then be transformed into a musical. Each musical is a full-length production with solos, duets, group numbers and choreography all in the style of the chosen playwright. Audiences will select from playwrights Neil Simon, Sam Shepard, Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams. The chosen playwright will be different every night, so each night will feature a completely different show.

The group includes veterans of bay area theater and improvisation that have performed in Bay Area Theater Sports and Unscripted Theater in San Francisco, as well as musicals staged at Spreckels Performing Arts Center and Marin County. Director Larry Williams helms the show, with talented improvisers Mick Laugs, Brooke Cook, Susan Quintara, Frank Coppola and Chris Miller. Music direction is provided by Wyn Meyerson who has played for several bay area improv groups and has been featured on “Whose Line Is It Anyway.”
