Doran Beach Regional Park Bioblitz

Thu, July 7, 2016, 7:00 am - 12:00 pm
We are bioblitzing throughout the year, so please join us August 6 at Carrington Ranch near Salmon Creek on the Sonoma Coast, September 10 at Maxwell Farms Regional Park and November 5 at Sonoma Valley Regional Park.

Join Sonoma County Regional Parks and the California Academy of Sciences for a series of Sonoma County grassroots bioblitzes. Located in Bodega Bay, Doran Regional Park has a 2-mile stretch of sandy beach, and a rock jetty at the harbor mouth provides access for exploring sea life. The main trail in Doran meanders through the dunes on the ocean side of the park and connects to a boardwalk with benches and wildlife viewing areas. Enjoy the scenery and help Sonoma County inventory the species in this unique park.

A bioblitz is an intensive one-day study of biodiversity in a specific location. We’ll look for birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, butterflies, insects, spiders, trees, flowers, mushrooms, anything! People of all ages and skill levels are welcome! You bring your curiosity, a smart phone with the iNaturalist app downloaded (or a digital camera), and your enthusiasm. We’ll rally some experts and folks who know the area. Together we’ll make some science! We’ll explore the park and document everything we can find for a few hours, then see what everyone else found, and get help with identifications.
