Sonoma County artists, Nancy Gray, Michelle Hoting, Victoria Kochergin, Laura Roney, Donna Schaffer, Jo Tobin-Charleston, Tosya Shore, Ron Sumner, present Give Joy, an exhibit in salute to the season. Gallery artists offer a variety of interpretations of the theme – joy in the beauty of flowers: Schaffer’s ”Penstemon,” Kochergin’s “ Red Amaryllis,” Nancy Gray’s sunny yellow roses; Roney’s “Fall Color,” a peaceful forest scene; Sumner’s love of pets, Tobin-Charleston’s joyful colorful jewelry or the exquisitely intricate silver “Autumn Oak Necklace”, created by Hoting. For those lucky enough to be on a special gift list, any of these would create joy – both for the giver and the giftee. What better joy that an original work of art created by a local artist.
Introducing Nancy Gray, new Gallery Member: Living in the heart of the wine country, Gray attributes much of her inspiration to the region’s magnificent landscape. Working mostly in acrylics, she incorporates mixed media and collage into her paintings, creating expressive works with bright happy colors. Growing up on the beach in Texas, Gray always yearns to be in nature in the warmth of the sun. She aspires to convey her delight of sunshine in her paintings and stir a heartwarming feeling.
For her debut in the Upstairs Art Gallery, Gray selected from her new series,“California Gold.” The magnificent golden autumn landscape here in the wine country inspired her to paint a series expressing the joy she feels living amongst such glorious natural beauty; what she refers to as the “gold” of every season here. Gray has exhibited locally during the past six years prior to joining the Gallery.
The Staircase Showcase on the stairway features consignment artist offerings, many under $50. Find the perfect earrings or necklace from collections by jewelers: Laura (Happy Woman Jewelry) Buckner, Hamida Judith Dides, Elaine Greene, Heyoka Merrifield, JoAnna Noble, Aaron Poovey, Robert Yelland. Glass artists, Brian & Nancy Roberts, Melissa McCann, Branka Harris, present a range of beautiful pieces from fine art to decorative boxes. Ceramic artists Kathy Brown, JoAnn Cassady, Karen Norton, Randy Snyder, Barbara Tocher offer a variety of exciting works. Photographers Alexis Greenberg and EG Singer present a wide choice of images, including stunning vineyard scenes. Animal whimsy is captured in sculptures by Sten Hoiland (wire), Fran Nielsen (assemblage), Nancy Winn (paper mache), ever popular for their delightful depiction of our favorite creatures.
