Join artists Laura Roney and Marsha Connell to celebrate the show. The artists will demonstrate their drawing and watercolor approaches from 1:30 to 2:30. Refreshments will be served.
Sonoma County artist Laura Roney, presents Cheers, a collection of oil paintings that focus on fun times – still life paintings that depict objects that create good times and figurative pieces that show people enjoying time together. A step up from the boring still life paintings of old, these works highlight specialty drinks that bring on the good cheer. There is nothing boring about “Me Gusta Margarita,” a painting of a delicious margarita. With the frosty drink set on a table right out of Puerto Vallarta, one can almost hear the mariachis singing and see the last rays of sun on the ocean. “In my art, I like to remind folks of good times and make them smile,” mused Roney.
Roney has been in love with art her entire life, turning to serious painting in 1993. Her love of still life painting comes from her life experience. After losing her house to the 2017 wildfire, Roney misses most the momentos that made up their lives, those little objects collected from their life experiences. This led her to focus on still life subject matter. Roney received her master’s degree from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco.

The Stairway Small Works Showcase presents Marsha Connell’s A Walk in the Woods, a collection of small watercolor paintings that dance with rhythmic colorful strokes expressing the intriguing shapes and forms found in nature. From trees on Sonoma County hilltops to the intimacy of a Sierra Mountain stream, the viewer is transported to the trailside scene. These pieces are like postcards from her many walks in nature. “You never know what you’ll find in your backpack,” remarked Connell.
