Usher Gallery is proud to present a new exhibition by Ina von Wunsch, whose intense, emotionally charged portraits and stylized human forms, reminiscent of German Expressionism, explore the complexities of love, loss and renewal. Focused on presence in the faces of those she loves “here…now”, von Wunsch’s work delves into the psychological depths of being—, adolescence, middle age, mortality, sensuality, longing, meaning—through sculpturally textured surfaces and vibrant color contrasts. With a raw visceral quality and unapologetic boldness, Ina s paintings confront the fragility and resilience of life, offering a powerful connection to emotional healing and presence. This evocative body of work invites viewers to witness and feel deeply, making space for vulnerability, transformation, and the impermanence of our human experience.
In the words of the artist “… these are images of a journey… a dream-like “existing”… also a feeling of departure… in my desire to stay at my lover’s side I exist… one foot in this world and one in the other… the paintbrush acts as a bridge between his world and mine… the way forward is with a broken heart as a broken heart knows it has truly loved and this comfort and the movement of the paintbrush, the color and texture of the paint is the physical presence of the emotions, feelings, memories I am left with…”
