The Ruminators are a Sonoma County, California-based folk and folk-rock band founded in 1989 by Greg Scherer. The band’s origin is rooted in the semi-rural area north of San Francisco, known for its redwoods, vineyards, cow-flecked hills, and rugged coastline. The group’s core members include Greg Scherer (guitar and vocals), Jennifer Goudeau (vocals), Ron Stinnett (keyboards and accordion), and Terry Ann Gillette (violin).
The band is known for its distinctive, ethereal sound, characterized by the contrasting voices of Scherer and Goudeau, and subtle, varied instrumental arrangements that blend cello, violin, accordion, piano, and guitars with percussion. Their music often evokes themes of mystery, quiet open spaces, and longing, with a sound that draws from late 1960s folk influences while incorporating experimentation and contemporary elements.
