From Household to Headwaters: How Our Choices at Home Impact Our Watershed

Tue, April 6, 2021, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

At the end of 2020, the City of Petaluma completed the much anticipated dredging of the Petaluma River to remove silt that had built up over the past decade! However, once dredging was completed, a new issue appeared: the dredge material was full of a decades’ worth of trash (yes, that photo on the right is actually from the dredge material)! Thankfully, a group of volunteers worked diligently to comb through the dredge material at Schollenberger Park and remove the plastic, bottles, and shredded bits of garbage in order to protect our watershed.

What can we do differently to ensure the future health of our Petaluma Watershed? This is where you come in! There are so many actions we can take in our households every day, from changing our buying habits and better managing our household waste to becoming more aware of what washes down our driveways and into our stormwater drains. Join Daily Acts, the City of Petaluma, and Recology for a discussion about actions we can take in our households to protect our watershed health! This webinar will be focused on our household actions as a key point of intervention.

This webinar is the first of our watershed pollution prevention series. The second webinar, which will focus on Landscape Choices, will be conducted on Tuesday April 13th from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm.
